I've tried to register some nice .gdn domains since last year but they all got rejected as reserved. They were very expensive therefore I was only going for one, maybe two.

I noticed recently that 101domain has them at $2.99 per year. WHAT, $2.99 per year? I tried many names and they had a premium price tag for the first year and a high rate per renewal. I didn't want to do that so I went looking for some $2.99 per year domains as advertised.

I wound up registering 36 chip LLL.gdn domains, 33 went through and 3 still processing. I was in heaven thinking dang LLL chips and the extension is chips too. Again I'm thinking wow just $2.99 per year while doing this.

I got to thinking tonight that this was to good to be true, so I logged in and went to renew one of the domains and the renewal is $384.99 per year.

So to make a long story short I F'd up but it was misleading saying /SALE/ .gdn $2.99 / yr.. Yes it's $2.99 for one year and then $384.99 to renew and this wan't clear to me.

I do admit that if I would have used the drop down for more years that it in fact shows the increase but I always reg a year and leave them on auto renew so I didn't click the drop down.

I reached out for an explanation as to why this isn't explained better during registration but I'm pretty sure I have one year to try and move some of these before renewal time comes around.

I've posted this as a warning, something to watch out for as I personally haven't ran into this type of situation before.

The views expressed on this page by users and staff are their own, not those of NamePros.
I would try to get a refund if you can.
This is what erks my about alot of new tlds. They sucker you in and then rape you if they can. I have seen the renewal fees go from $19.99 to $39.99 within days of my purchases. I will be dropping alot. There will be many drops in the new tlds space.

Who is going to buy those domains from you with renewal prices like that? You are going to have a $12K renewal bill on just 33 domains. YIKES
You can get some nice LLLL.com's for that amount.
Call or email them now.

It is a pointless extension anyway. Why do you even pay attention ? If you have money to burn, even if it's only $2, donate to charity. That's what domainers should be doing.

.GDN UPDATE: Sent them an email about all of this, got a reply. They said that their renewal isn't $384.99 and wanted to know the site doing this.

I was direct about all of this but they seem like they want to be in line with everyone else, good thing.

Hopefully what I've pointed out to them will bring .GDN within reason for domainers and any .GDN renewals moving forward. Not sure, let's see...

I will update if I hear more.

I bought 8 domains for .gdn and it has a renewal of $60. I am not sure why it tells you that it is $384. I see that you bought the domains from 101 domains, I bought it from dotintra.com. In this case I think it has nothing to do with .gdn but everything to do with a reseller as resellers can charge whatever they want to in the end. I got these domains for three years at a price of 12.50 which is sweet and I dont even have to worry about $60 renewal for three years :))))

Domainers enjoy being victimized it seems. People are just burning money ablaze on those .gdn domains.
I would definitely lump.gdn in the same basket as .xyz and .top (spammers too).
You know what they say: if you sleep with dogs you will watch fleas :)

What a crock - I am sorry you are going through this @mad409

Great idea @brindle123 see what you could do to dispute/refund. I only got wise to ngTLD renewal shenanigans after trying to register a .work direct at M&M and their payment page kept failing (certain I had valid credit card) - for <$2 purchase. Then I searched and found all kinds of complaints about that registry and the ngTLDs in general, too complicated for me.

Best of luck!

If they reduce the renewal fees early investors will do back-flips !

gdngdngdngdngdngdngdngdngdngdngdngdngdngdngdngdngdngdngdngdngdn.gdn
21 times 'gdn' / TLD .gdn
most possible ammount of 'gdn' in a .gdn domain
original 63.DOMAIN

Thanks. Google says it's Google Display Network
I got Advertise and bunch of others including eBet, bookings and bitcoins. Worth a gamble for a year at $2.99.

Was just doing some research on .gdn to see who actually sells it and found these guys do:

101domain
Nominate
Domain.fr
Nameweb
Encirca
Instra Corporation
dominiando.it
Dotintra

seems like the renewal is different for most of these so i guess if you already bought one you could just transfer it over to one with a better rate (but seems like Dotintra has the best rates for .gdn)

Exactly because my experience with the .GDN spammers is personal, I have every right to share this info here before your "plug" - or should I say, spam - about this $2.99 "opportunity" sends more unsuspecting domainers towards this worthless "investment."

Telling me to type slower, that's a good one. :D

BTW I'm all against all type of spam, so go ahead, Google "XYZ spam".
Did they kick your dog or something? In one post you say that you have an objective opinion that's negative while in your next post you say that it's personal...so which is it?

@Robert Sanchez - Thanks for expanding. Now we can have a discussion with substance.

.GDN is as good (or bad) as .XYZ and in my opinion, not a smart investment choice. The gTLDs of choice are those that form meaningful pairs: keyword + gTLD forming a single entity. Such as, Country.Club, or Domain.Network, Great.Photography etc.

.GDN is the first time a Registry spammed the hell out of domain owners, with the ridiculous statement that they'd better grab their brand before squatters do so. Read the article I wrote before commenting further.

Just read the article. While it would've been better if they didn't mention the squatting stuff, seems as if its just letting people know about .gdn sunrise period. Again I have no context as to how many times they emailed you but to me spam or not this is a bottom line business and I would buy any domain that has demand and value. Even if you consider these new gTLDs as spammers it's impossible to ignore their numbers and growth over that last year or so. So spammers or not I'm just looking at bottom line of getting the most return for my investment & it stands to reason that the more demand for a particular domain the bigger the potential market & potential return.

I swear, domainers will buy any extension that's short, even if the registry scams you I guess. Just know before loading up on 3N, 3L, etc., that there will be another short extension tomorrow, and the next day, and the next day...

Update - 101 advised today they are reaching out to the registry and will give me an update when they hear something. Finally, hopefully they will get in line with the others in the near future...

Can't seem to find the .50 cent domains for the first year at dotintra, gdn which I'm sure are the worst but noticed the banner running here at NP so where's the .50?

I entered crap and it's still $2.99 for the first year! :)

Pricing is f-ing up an extension that has a generic future like xyz IMO...
@mad409 I saw the ad on NP last week too and I reached out to them for clarification. So basically, the total 3 year registration will cost you 12.50 (0.5 year1+ 6 yr2 + 6yr3). I believe it is just a way of marketing it as we are actually getting .gdn for 0.5 for the first year if we do 3 yrs with them...I actually bought a couple and it works :)

They've been spamming everyone about their extension for months - email list scrapped from whois.

Only sold at 101domain with a ludicrous renewal fee.
https://www.domcomp.com/tld/gdn

This crappy junk will fail even faster than most crappy nGTLD

Is this your name, shows registered. If so what was reg fee and whats renewal showing. TY.

Yes, it was me who registered
globaldomainname.gdn

I registered it at 101domain, Inc., a few day ago.
Their registration price at the time of registering was 2,99 USD PROMO SALE PRICE
Their renewal price at the time of registering was 349,00 USD

I also registered those .gdn's:

abcdefghijklmnopqrstuvwxyz.gdn 26 characters, whole latin alphabet
0123456789.gdn / 1234567890.gdn both versions of all digits (I prefer the first version)
smartphone.gdn
domain.gdn
server.gdn
king.gdn

and...

@kingof.top I really really really hope you registered those not knowing the renewal price.

is a LLL.gdn really worth the reg' fee of $2.99 if you can't find a buyer.
I'm not sure if you have to disclose the renewal cost to them, but as soon as you do(or they find out), then the deal is off.
Unless you get lucky with an end user.

Ok nominate.com let me reg a LLL for 3 years at $10.00 per year. It's in pending so lets see if it goes through at that rate. If they can do three years for $30.00, which I'm not holding my breath, I can transfer 101domain list over to them and hopefully get the same rate.

This would need to be confirmed of course. Lets see if this goes through first as I've never heard of them before.

Good luck - if so, remember that a transfer is possible at the earliest after 60 days of registration if I am not wrong - you may know that of course.
