The views expressed on this page by users and staff are their own, not those of NamePros.
"Interestingly enough the domain caleidoscope(.)com being 2 letter keyword was listed and sold for a higher price."

Caleidoscope is a one word brandable based on "Kaleidoscope"

None here. My portfolio is 312 domains and it's been 47 days since I had a sale.

Ouch. That's close to 15,000 listing days without a sale. Not good. I'm over 11,000 listing days now :-/

Interesting situation.

An end user effectively decided they didn't want to pay my BB list price but clearly liked the logo and the name (it's a made up word).

So much so they set up a social meda page with the BB logo design for my name, registered a business name with the domain "name+keyword+keyword" website not yet active but registered long after I published mine. The logo is posted on their social media pages.

I got on to BB but I'm wondering if anyone has ever experienced something similar? I've held off contacting the culprit for now despite the temptation to pick up the phone and give them a piece of my mind. :)

Ok guys, let us just continue our discussion about BB experience.

I finally grabbed 2 domains with an extra letter on ExpiredDomains.net and submitted them to BB, we'll see if they get accepted.

The 2 domains are: Pikkas//com and Capaxx//com, the latter is an abandoned TM of Siemens Financial Services

Extra letter discussion above was for top dictionary keywords.

Ok, if that's how it's going to be. I'll just stop posting here then. Enjoy your discussion.

Feel free to discuss what you like Arca, only @Eric Lyon decides if something is off limits, Eric will review the last few pages and then say what he thinks.

@michaeljkrell or anyone else who knows the answer.

Why some domains on Brandbucket, when typed in, have a nice landing page with no other suggested names, while others (all of mine) don't have that?

Example v/i/e/w/z/o dot com

Is it because I have used forwarding instead of nameservers?

Yes. Must use nameserver.

yes.
If you use BB nameservers, it would show nice landing page.

wow, thanks. What are the nameservers for BB?

I assume it is ns1.brandbucket.com, ns2.brandbucket.com?

Yes.

Is there a reason why you're using a redirect over NameServers? Do you redirect your domains directly to BrandBucket, or are you doing something to track analytics?

If you want to track the analytics, use above.com. Park domains with above.com and redirect to BB. Thats a good option.

You assumed correct.

Is there much benefit to the nice landing page? Besides the score cards, here's my thought to how the search goes down.

Redirected Domain Goes to: ExampleBBDomain.com > See scorecard > Click BIN > Get redirected to the forwarded page ie BrandBucket.com/ExampleBBDomain which contains other possibly better brandable domains > The buyer can now: Buy a better BrandBucket domain or click BIN for a second time

Why does it even say BIN if it's just going to redirect you to another BIN button? This seems misleading. It seems it would be more accurate if they had two options: (1) BIN (2) See more domains [it's only fair for the proposed 'see more domains' button to feature domains owned by the owner of the forwarded domain]

Forwarded Domain Goes to: BrandBucket.com/ExampleBBDomain which contains other possibly better brandable domains > The buyer can now: Buy a potentially better BrandBucket domain or click BIN once to initiate sale.

Yes, I see the benefit. Someone typed the specific name, he sees a great lander that looks like actual website and where he gets to warm up for few seconds to idea, rather than immediately being offered alternatives. Look at it this way: there is a possible upside with zero downside.

MK uses nameservers, might have seen advantage to it via analytics.

The advantage in having a nice landing page is to make the page look pretty as the majority of buyers will type in the domain at some point prior to hitting the BIN button.

You want the logo to look its best.

Another real life example of companies using double letters in strong dictionary words is Automattic.com, the parent company of WordPress.

The name automattic has been registered for over 12 years. Good pickup btw.

I guess its an 'old' new trend
And it is only going to get harder for end users to secure good domain names because domainers own 90% of all registered names. I think the future of BB and BR is looking bright.

Agreed! My personal view is that brandables are a growing trend, there may be peaks and troughs along the way over the coming years but all of the top quality generics have gone now and/or are very expensive to buy. Startups just can't afford that type of money, but they can afford a quality brandable :)

Naming trends do seem to come and go.

Problem with some of these added letters in strange places is they might seem aged and "last decade" much like Napster does today.

The plethora of copycat brand names out their have led to many startups failing miserably, even after getting funded.

But as we only care about selling the name, rather than building a global business on it that is timeless, maybe we do not need to think that much about it.

There are thousands of available and great brandable names to choose from at the moment.

There are also dozens of platforms that offer these domain names for sale.

As a domainer, it is not only important to own great names but equally important to have these listed on the best available platforms for maximum exposure.

Having done my research, I believe BB and BR are the leaders. In other words, it's where majority of end users come to find a name.

Hence why so many domainers continue to list their domains on these platforms.

I had a BB sale confirmed this week (still in escrow). It's the very first BB sale this year for me out of a portfolio of 111 names listed so the platform has been performing pretty poorly for me so far this year. Especially compared to 2015 when I had 9 sales with BB. Fwiw, I did stopped listing new names with BB and similar marketplaces such as BR in November.
