Spatial computing is the digitization of activities of machines, people, objects, and the environments in which they take place to enable and optimize actions and interactions.

The term Spatial computing summarizes many complex aspects of technology. As a result, many people hesitate to deal with the concept behind it.

Nevertheless, many applications used on a regular basis are based on spatial computing: From GPS to ride-sharing apps and location tagging on social media to AR apps.

Spatial computing was defined in 2003 by Simon Greenwold, as "human interaction with a machine in which the machine retains and manipulates referents to real objects and spaces

After desktop and mobile computing, the next big tech era will be spatial computing—also known as augmented reality—in which computer graphics are overlaid on the world around the user.

Let's showcase spatial related domains, discuss ,share any news or recent sales . I got this

No killer apps yet. Hopefully they will come in the next year or two.

Mass adoption will come most likely with the lightweight, outdoor Smart Glasses.

The quite expensive indoor headset is a niche for now.

One of my domains spatialwriter .com was accepted at atom (formerly squadhelp.com). Let's see how far this one will go.

Makes sense. But I think the grave meme is only accurate if they don't plan on developing an second edition. They reportedly sold out the first version. But if there's less demand of course it makes sense to cut production down.

They are probably focusing on developing the ecosystem (no killer app yet) and making a much more affordable version.

But if anything, I highly doubt that they would give up completely, abandoning Vision Pro, because they likely expected a possible decline in sales in their long term plans.

But this is may be still bad news for Spatial domains though, because it means a likely delay in any progress of usage of the term. It's still growing popular, but nothing like if there were "killer apps" running viral abd making the Vision Pro a highly sought after device.

I think they could.

I've been been following it closely and the whole thing has been a disaster, price/sales/returns/product itself/press.

I think Apple will still be involved in immersive tech, but i don't think we are going to see another Vision Pro device anytime soon, i think what we will see is Apple scaling back their immersive tech operations, similar to what Google have done.

I would agree 100% if it wasn't already a thriving industry. It's beyond mere gaming and Meta has done well in it. I believe that even Magic Leap has succeeded in carving a space in the niche focusing on b2b applications.

At this point they are gathering data to see what the users are doing and how to upgrade. A complete disaster would imply that return rates were huge (25% - 50%). There were design flaws but nothing recall worthy.

If they completely discontinue VisionPro that would be very surprising, but it's certainly plausible. If it were to happen it would probably be because AI has taken the spotlight abd they're redistributing their R&D budget to that.

But again, AR is still predicted to be the future of computing someday and they probably want to have an impact today.

No crystal balls.

Apple as a company today are all about profit quickly as possible - I don't think they are company to do what Meta are doing, be patient and spend billions and billions until something is consumer ready, whereas Zuck/Meta seem fully commited and happy to do that, I'm not a fan of either Meta/Apple but i believe the future immersive heavily relies on Meta, if they ever stopped it would be a huge blow, more so than Apple.

Zuck as put his legacy on immersive tech and the metaverse, i think Tim Cook may be reluctant to do the same and persist with Vision Pro and his own vision of immersive tech.

Don't take this personally, but I *almost* stopped reading at "Apple as a company today are all about profit quickly as possible"...not only does this highlight your lack of understanding of Apple, but the general nature of corporations that have thrived for decades.

You could be right about them shutting down VisionPro, but for different reasons, as stated earlier. With that said, I hope you're wrong. We need another serious player in AR when it comes and the VisionPro is a great entry device.

They blew Meta's Quest headset out of the water with their first version device. That's outstanding and appears to me like they want to dethrone or challenge Meta for device share. That's a significant reason for them to keep going, but let's see...
