I want to share an interesting (public) Facebook exchange between Sahar Sarid and Andrew Rosener, two experts on the domain investment market. Sahar was commenting on the Chinese stock market drop and its potential impact on domain investments, and Andrew Rosener of Media Options disagreed with his assessment.

This is what Andrew had to say:

"At the higher end of the Chinese Domain Market you will likely see new highs emerge as desperate wealthy Chinese investors try to outrun a falling Yuan and crashing stock market. The smart money was already out of this market which is why it’s falling anyhow."

The Chinese Banks got way too big, so it's just a shakeout.

You can't have what 3 or 4 of the biggest banks in the world owned by the Chinese.

It makes every currency worthless.

Now the Chinese want control of Icann too.

LOL

You know in the 80's it was the Japanese would rule the world soon, now we see it was the Chinese all along.

Don't think that they understand what is going on in the Chinese market outside of a very narrow set of domains (the classic domainer view of generic domain names being traded to other domainers). There is a very high dump rate (domains being registered for a year and then dropped) on some Chinese registrars and hosters. This is symptomatic of highly speculative/bubble activity. It has been ongoing for a while and domain names seem to be a kind of speculation for those who find the stockmarket expensive.
