When is a .co.uk expired name available for hand reg?

If a .co.uk domain has expired, for example to make it simple, on the 1st of this month is the renewal date & that date has passed, how many days after this is the name available for hand regging. Of course, assuming that it's not backordered.

If I remember correctly, if someone wants to reregister a .co.uk, they have to renew it at least 60 days before expiration, is that correct?

You can renew a .co.uk up to the minute it drops and if there is a mistake by Nominet it can even be renewed *after* it drops :)

Generally you are looking 90ish days between expiry and deletion.

So, if the whois says:
Renewal date: 01-Sep-2007

Registration status:
Renewal required.
*** This registration has been SUSPENDED. ***
That means that 90 days after this I can hand reg this name?

No. .CO.UK names drop 92 or 99 days after the renewal date

So when the name drops, there won't be any whois info except for it saying that the name is not registered, is that correct?

Below is an example of the raw WHOIS results for a domain I just checked which is available: -

No match for "saklsadjldsalk.co.uk".

This domain name has not been registered.

WHOIS lookup made at 13:28:32 02-Sep-2007

There are lots of active dropcatchers for .co.uk.
If the name is good don't expect that it's going to be available for hand reg.

Funnily, there are lots of PRIVATE drop catchers, which are individuals who have honed their own TAGS to grab amazing domains.

[snipped at request of TAG holder]

This is because he got his TAG early from Nominet

They're their own registrar. TAG isn't the Correct term anymore I don't think.

A TAG holder is someone who owns the right to registration facilities... a registrar.

I can assure you that they are still known under the 'TAG' terminology.

Each Registrar has their own identification TAG which is just what they appear in the WHOIS records as.

People who got them early, predating Nominet have special rights or something. I'm not sure. You'll have to look it up :)
