I still stand by this, and won't touch .so, but am wondering why people are jumping on .so keywords when the keywords are left open in other extensions? Anybody can register a .al domain and I checked a bunch of the keywords being posted in this thread, they are available and free to reg in .al (as an example)

I see the same opportunities in other countries with stable governments, so am baffled as to why .so is being bought into.

I see your point. However, nobody remembers .al, whatsoever. .so is at least an english word that has some degree of memorability. The couple i bought I got for a quarter of the price of any other "extension" that has availability in that keyword. I'm not a gambler, nor am I big on speculating. But if there is a super product/service keyword available for $20, this is not a risk at all.

A story:

I only own one mobi and recently hand regged it. It was bought a few years back for high $xxx by someone else. It is a 2 word domain with low amount of searches. Now the guy who purchased it for high $xxx, that obviously was serious speculation from which he got burned because I think it is worth mid $xx at the moment. Spending $20 for a one word super high search volume .so is something totally different.

I've seen some posts about holding for future profits, I see those guys losing out, but if you can cash out with a quick flip, I can't argue with that.

Yeah, I would argue the long term stability of this extension myself. With such a low reg fee, theres definitely a decent upside in the first year for the stronger keywords, IMO.

I passed on the so's i would take Fat.so for regfee though lollolol

Actually Aruba.so has been on Bido since April 1st. So far 0 votes.

Bido itself sucks. They say domains will get into auction between 7 to 30 days after getting 10 votes, but is more like after 30 days, because I have a few waiting to go into auction and I've been waiting this long: one domain already at 26 days, another 22 days, and the others 21, 20 and 19 days.

I know I could accelerate it by paying 9 bucks. But the only one profiting from it would be Bido. 9 bucks, plus their commission... LOL

I will wait the 30 days and if they don't go into auction I will pull out. After all the odds of selling them in the auction are very low. The percentage of sales on Bido are less than 10 percent.

And more on topic...one of the biggest traps I see in domaining is the "it's only $10" mentality.

Sorry, but money is money. You can point out the guy who bought your name during the landrush $200, and say you're more clever because you got it for $10. There is a real possibility that you are simply making a smaller mistake than the first guy.

And most people don't buy just one domain. At $10, they'll buy 10 or 20 domains at least, which could add up to $200 all over again.

Then there are the reg fees.

And then there's the gov't rolling over and seizing your domains.

If you are just looking for a quick flip, on the other hand, I can see riding the current craze.

But $10 is still $10. If you treat $10 as a no-risk affair, it will add up fast and you'll wonder where your money went.

For $10, you can hand reg a .com domain with end-user value, and have a reasonable chance of flipping it for $200-$300. That makes more sense to me than just gambling on easy money in Somalia.
