Hi all,

Might be a silly question but I just need clarification of the term hand reg as I see it often here on NP

Does it mean to ‘invent’ a domain name on a register at default hand reg price

Or

Does it mean an expired domain that has come back into circulation, ‘hand reg’d’ again at default price

I assume the former but I’m just wondering if re-regging an expired domain falls under the same classification

Thanks,
-M

The views expressed on this page by users and staff are their own, not those of NamePros.
Yes, you reg the name with default price. without the use of paid service/tool. doesn't matter if its fresh drop or new.

Even if you "invent" a domain name that is currently not registered, it might turn out it had been registered some time in the past, perhaps several times. There's a whole lot of people on the planet and we tend to have similar ideas all the time.

In the world of domains, there’s a tale to be told,
Of hand-registrations, brave and bold.
No bidding wars or aftermarket fuss,
Just you and your keyboard, no need to rush.

You scour the web, with a gleam in your eye,
For that perfect name, you’re ready to buy.
No brokers, no fees, just a simple click,
A fresh, new domain, it’s yours to pick.

While others may splurge on names pre-owned,
You find the gems that are still unknown.
With creativity and a bit of flair,
You snag the names that are truly rare.

So here’s to the hunters, the seekers of gold,
Who hand-register domains, brave and bold.
May your searches be fruitful, your finds be grand,
In the vast domain world, you’ll always stand.

My head reading that:

Both.

I will add in my own way.
Hand reg is when registering any available domain at registrars price, no matter if it was dropped or sold previously, it is when it's rental cycle has ended or never began.
