Snapnames will handle all Network solution Expiring Names

Find a domain name that you really want. View .COM and .NET domain name registrations that have expired and are pending renewal or deletion using our alphabetical directory or keyword search. Place a backorder through our partner, SnapNames, for any domain name you want to try to register - there are no upfront fees. You pay only the SnapNames minimum bid price if the domain name is not renewed by the current registrant during any applicable grace period and your backorder is the only one submitted for the domain. If more than one person places a backorder for a name, you will be automatically entered into a simple auction where you can set the maximum price you want to pay.

Smacks of WLS to me. I wonder how long it will take ICANN to order a halt to this practice.

....What a bunch of bullshit and what a total MONOPOLY, why cant there just be a simple universal lottery for the domain(s) (maybe limit the total amount of entrants per domain-first come first served) so that everyone that enters has an opportunity to get the domain(s) for a flat fee?, who other than really affluent businesses and top domain brokers can really pay these outrageous prices that domains have been auctioning off for? This whole sector of the domain business is being ruined by greedy companies..why not just buy the damn names from the owners now before they drop since you end up paying several hundred to several thousand to some domain catching service for the domain anyways now? You arent really "catching" anything ....you are just really buying it like an end user! What a crock of shit..this sucks and really is ruining everyones chances of getting good dropping domains and being able to make any money....I hate NETSOL AND SNAPNAMES AND POOL AND FOR THE RECORD THEY ARE A BUNCH OF SELF AUCTION BIDDING CROOKS AND THEY BENEFIT ONLY THEMSELVES AND ARE A BOON TO US AND OUR BUSINESS.

Thank you for the NC17 testimonial chris.

Your passion to the thread theme at hand is equal to mine in many regards.
Wanting to be like a business is one thing, but Netsol is in my view utilizing previous monopolistic holds and showing evidence of disregarding ICANN policies in order to gain a stand in the drop market.

While I too have a distatste for pool and hope they burn in the deep trenches of hell, if they continue with their inane Phase 1 and 2 nonsense. However, Netsol is in many regards enacting something very distressing on their end as it pertains to endusers. They are lifting a generalized protective veil off of registrants in relation to the drop cycle.

Keep an eye on your domains because if this snowballs to become the norm, registrars could very well be looking at our prized possessions with dollar signs in their eyes. Quite discomforting when in fact they are the ones housing them.

True!

If I owned NetSol, I wouldn't even let SnapNames into the picture. I would just run some appraisal software, pick up all the valuable names that were expiring, and sell them direct (as well as earn PPC from them in the meantime).

I don't understand why all registrars don't already do something like this. Maybe they didn't know they could, or maybe they don't know how to determine the value of their expiring domains.

Or mabey its just resistence to change. They like to do the business they have been doing since the start ...
Also They may like to focus more on there core competancy of domain registration and r getting enough profits or mabey its just rules they need to follow...

And as of Dec 21/04............follow they will.

Expired Domain Deletion Policy

Today ICANN announced the implementation of the Expired Domain Deletion Policy (EDDP). This consensus policy defines a uniform deletes practice that registrars must follow at the time of domain name expiry, as well as specific requirements for registrar handling of expired names that are subject to a UDRP dispute.

Merry Christmas Snapnames/Netsol.

I think the key words are here:
If more than one person places a backorder for a name, you will be automatically entered into a simple auction where you can set the maximum price you want to pay.

NSI has no monopoly on the backorder/auction as in the WLS, another backorder could come from any snapnames customer. Snapnames may not even get the domain, as this doesn't guarantee that snapnames is the only one with access to the drops. It appears to me that NSI is only trying to make sure their large number of customers are in the running to pick up the names as they tend to be blindingly loyal to them regarless of the high prices and poor service history.

I would imagine snapnames gives a commission back to nsi for sending them customers in exchange for timely and updated lists of pending delete names and bandwidth to the registry to make the grab attempt on deletion. I still think they are competing with pool and others on these names, but someone could test it out on one of the names on their list.

No, that is not correct. ALL NSI expiring names will be sold through SnapNames.com if someone has placed a backorder for the domain there. Pool, NW, Club Drop, etc are no longer in the running for any NSI expired name (that has a Snap on it). Technically (according to NSI) the names are not dropping. They are basically taking ownership of them before the RGP begins and having Snap auction them. They will never enter the normal drop cycle.

Correctomundo Duke.

Here in lies the problem IMO and why ICANN had to come forth and clarify some very sketchy issues with current protocols in relation to the Drop Cycle which NSI is showing evidence of circumventing. But it still a hazordous guess as to what happens next in all of this until the 21st of December when the Expired Domain Deletion Policy has any teeth.

I forsee some legal entanglings on all sides of the spectrum in regards to this misaligned partnership. The next three months will be an interesting read as I hardly doubt this is the last chapter in this rouge registrars saga.

ExpireGuy, I just found an interesting thread about someone who recently
used SnapNames and already it looks like it's beginning to "stink".

Here's the thread: http://namepros.com/showthread.php?t=48961.

I've notified the person about this thread here to give a firsthand account.
This will be interesting...

Hi,

I had posted an experience I had with Snapnames Auction yesterday in a new thread. NPS member "davezan" suggested that I post it here.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------

Has anyone had any experiences on the Snapname Auction yet? I just got off of an auction that went into overtime for two hours beyond the regular auction time. What was unreal was the fact that there was one other person bidding with me during those two additional hours. Each nine minute overtime would end with the other bidder increasing his bid by $10.00 and then later by $25.00. My point is that at the end of each over-time the other bidder had never exceeded my high bid.

I called Snapnames during the auction and asked them how many time do I have to win this auction? He really couldn't give me an intelligent explaination. I asked him how do you extend the time in the auction over and over again when my high bid has not been exceeded? There was no excuse offered. I asked him if the other bidder had put a proxy bid in and he said NO.

Finally, after almost two hours of over-time the other bidder finally exceeded my high bid and I said the heck _ _ _ _with this and walked away. How could you want to participate in an auction like that?

I have never had an experience like this on Pool or Enom.

I would be interested in hearing if anyone else has had an auction experience like this.

Thanks for the vent time.....................................

Regards,

Showcase

WOW, does NSI use their slight remaining relationship with Verisign to do this behind the scenes, or are they just ingoring the ICANN drop rules? I hope ICANN revokes their accreditation for doing so.

Well.. just to place more angles on this do you think (talking to everyone) since the customer failed to renew the domain and thus the domain is sent back to the register to handle they should be able to get rid of the domains how they please since the domains are in their possession now?
