Yet another TLD --> .cat

Spaceship Spaceship
Watch
In a nutshell:
Authorities have handed the eastern Spanish region of Catalonia 'virtual' national status by approving ".cat" for Internet sites in Catalan and pertaining to Catalan culture.
ICANN validated a submission by Catalonia's Associacio PUNTCAT (http://www.puntcat.org) which was made on March 16 last year.

pussy.cat is mine ;)

hmm, i wonder what .dog COULD stand for lol. This is going to turn out to be just like .tv. MOst people register TV shows with .tv even thought it is a country etc.

Yeah, but none of you knows "catalan" which is the language most premium .CAT names will be registered in... ;)

Not including english words punning on cat, like pussy.cat, dogeating.cat, etc :P

(Feel free to register dogeating.cat by the way, just made it up on the spot.

What next with extensions though? I'd love to see .dot, how confusing would that be? :D

You mean it sounds plain ridiculous. Who will stop ICANN ?
BTW these are the same guys who turned down .asia. I can't see any logic from their part.

they are still thinking about .asia

There are implications for the existing ccTLD registries in the region, plus there is no regional governing body in the way there is for .eu.

I agree, way too many extensions. Let's just have an extension for every day of the week, every month of the year, every holiday, and every color.

ihate.monday
christmasin.july
shopfor.christmas
light.purple

When will it stop?

At least this is just going to be another ccTld, instead of a brand new one.

One day someone will form a country just to secure the rights to a .ocm domain.

Well in some way all these new (sometimes non-sense) extensions set up by ICANN can be viewed as a way to squeeze more cash out of us :hehe:
